Brenda Hallows and Pete Bottomley

As Jamie has announced, we at the Waterside recently lost two of our members within a few days of each other and the Waterside, I believe, will be a little emptier with their passing.

It is ironic that they should have both left us in such a short space of time as they were always so close in life, each considering the other to be a great and trusted friend, yet, no more different characters could you wish to meet.

Brenda joined the Waterside some years ago, already in her senior years, going on to prove an inspiration to so many people in her dedication to losing weight and gaining fitness through activities in the gym and various classes.

However, it is the memory of Brenda’s presence in the pool every day during Aqua classes, that will linger long in the memories of those who knew and loved her. She was easy to spot among the other ladies (and indeed gentlemen) in the class with her streaks of pink or lilac or whatever colour took her fancy, through her hair. Brenda wasn’t  just there to make up the numbers,  she was a pacesetter on a mission to show everybody how it should be done.

As for Pete…..Well what can you say about Pete other than he  was….. Pete.

His claim to fame in the league of Waterside champions was to take part and gain a gold medal in the 2018  ‘Jacuzzi Endurance Trials’

Pete was forever a character and who can ever forget his usual greeting of

‘Ey Up’ whenever paths crossed ? He was a past and valuable member of the Waterside members committee and an accomplished guitarist, picture artist, writer and meat pie expert.

He was jointly responsible for writing and appearing in that unforgettable pantomime and tale of swashbuckling adventure  ‘Pirates of the Aquarobics’  a couple or three years  ago.

So sadly, we bid farewell to two dear members, so different, yet so alike in the way they made you feel privileged to have been able to be a part of their special lives.
